If nothing else, this issue of Generations reinforces the truth that all may not appear to be a simple as it first appeared. Personal retirement plans are, on one hand, tax advantaged, and then at death become tax disadvantaged, with potentials of double taxation. Tax laws encourage you to save for retirement, and then at a certain age, seem to penalize those who may feel they do not need to withdraw those retirement funds. A beneficiary designation overrides instructions in a will, destroying everything you thought you had so carefully planned. Oh my, it can be confusing.

Actually, in situations like this, the value of competent advice cannot be underestimated. And surprisingly, often the solutions to what appears to be complicated can be made rather simple. Sometimes a problem that appears to be technical is much more a values question. What do you want to accomplish? What will reflect best on your beliefs? What will influence your heirs in the most positive manner? How much is enough? What will bring peace to your mind?

We can help you find that solution. We offer considerable years of experience, highly specialized training, authoritative resources, but most importantly, a desire to be of service.

Our priority at the West Texas Rehabilitation Center Foundation is to develop relationships with the Rehab’s friends that result in commitments that assure the long-term future of the Rehab’s work. Just as the Rehab is unique in that we always ask patients if they will need assistance in meeting the financial obligations of their care – after all, in 50 years of service we have never turned anyone away because of their inability to pay – so is our work at the Foundation. We work as a team to provide solutions on a no cost, no obligation basis. In the spirit of neighbor helping neighbor, we will help you find a solution, regardless of that solution benefiting the Rehab or not. All you have to do is ask.
